This position plays a key role in supporting daily solid waste and recycling operations through the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment and general facility maintenance.</p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;<br> <b>Position Overview:</b><span></span></p><p>The Heavy Equipment Operator performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in support of public works operations, with a primary focus on solid waste and recycling activities at the RTF. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment, assisting with disposal and recycling processes, and performing routine maintenance and inspections on assigned equipment. The role also includes general labor duties as needed to support daily operations. This position reports directly to the RTF Supervisor and plays a key role in maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant operations.</p><p><span><br></span><b><span>Key Responsibilities:</span></b></p><ul><li><span>&nbsp;</span>Operate heavy equipment (e.g., front-end loader, backhoe, sweeper, gang mower) in support of public works construction, maintenance, and repair activities. </li><li><span>&nbsp;</span>Support solid waste operations, including recycling, landfill, and baling processes.</li><li><span>&nbsp;</span>Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety checks on assigned equipment and vehicles. </li><li><span>&nbsp;</span>Assist with a wide range of field operations, including duties typically performed by light equipment operators and laborers. </li><li><span>&nbsp;</span>Complete manual labor tasks associated with equipment operation and general public works activities.</li><li><span>&nbsp;</span>Maintain a safe work environment by following established safety procedures and performing additional duties as assigned.</li></ul><p><b><span>Minimum Qualifications:</span></b><span> </span>A High School diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of two (2) years of advanced technical or vocational training and experience in the operation of heavy equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid DOT medical card. Recycling and transfer facility employees must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License. Skilled experience in operating vehicles and equipment is required.</p><p><span><br> <b>Preferred Qualifications:</b> </span>A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred for Recycling and transfer facility employees. Knowledge of departmental operations and safe and effective heavy equipment operation techniques and practices is also preferred. Recycling and transfer facility employees are preferred to hold 2B, 4E, and 4G hoisting engineer’s licenses.</p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;<span></span></p><p><b><span>Compensation &amp; Benefits</span></b><span>:</span></p><p><span>T</span>his is a full-time, benefited position classified as Grade PW2-1, $28.80 per hour (with CDL) and Grade PW1-1,&nbsp;$26.19 per hour (without a CDL) with a 3% shift differential for weekend shifts.
